The only eyewitness account of the Bełżec death camp, related by Rudolf Reder, a prisoner of Bełżec who managed to escape and survive. (The 1999 Aleksander and Alicja Hertz Annual Memorial Lecture) Since 1999 The Center for Jewish Culture has organized an annual lecture dedicated to the memory of Alicja and Aleksander Hertz.
The first of them was delivered on September 22, 1999, by Czesław Miłosz, a friend of the late author of The Jews in Polish Culture.
